A story of wine and people through time. A story of wine and people through time. A resilient tale of native grape varieties in Alta Langa.

The passing of the seasons in Roddino reaffirms the foundations of a territory and of those who made it great: the care of its people. The former "La Castella" plot remains a collective family project.

Beyond tradition. What defines the care for what has been is the commitment of each individual and a single family. The past thus becomes experience for the future and expertise for tomorrow. Inspired and motivated, the Cassino family nurtures their efforts to preserve the goodness of the land and the wine.

Cassino: a surname that embraces the municipalities of Roddino and Sinio. Here, where the vines sprout.

It is the beginning of the 19th century. A marriage certificate, still preserved today, marks the arrival of the Cassino family in Langa. A land that, year after year, through experimentation and research, writes the first chapter of wine history, now a classic chapter in worldwide oenological literature. It is in the encounter between fertile lands and peasant hands that the story of La Castella takes shape.

Growing, changing, and enduring. The cyclical nature of history that leads back to the origins.

The Cassino family has cultivated four and a half hectares of land, generation after generation. Located between the municipalities of Roddino and Sinio, the land faces southwest, thus kissed by the sun. The same terrain, with its slope and exposure, helps ensure the optimal, consistent ripening of the grapes. It is amidst these hills that the residents of the villages perched on the Langhe slopes acquire La Castella wine—to accompany family meals and preserve precious memories.

It was only in the 1990s that La Castella, with Silvio Cassino, became a winery. A story that began with the vines of father Adolfo and looks towards the future of wine. Today, with Monica and Elena, the daily life of wine continues in Roddino.

Rossese Bianco, Dolcetto d’Alba, Barbera d’Alba, Langhe Nebbiolo, Nebbiolo d’Alba, and Barolo are the signature styles of “La Castella.” Wines that bring to the glass aroma and structure, a genuine expression of those who have chosen the land, forever.

Wine reflects its territory. It is a matter of soul and identity. La Castella's wine are shaped by the silence and honesty of the hills that created them.

The hills between Sinio and Roddino overlook the Alta Langa yet have roots in the sea. Here, man adapts to the slow rhythms and delicate sounds of a land awakening. A unique terroir, born from the meeting of the strength of the Apennines, distant sea breezes, and soils rich in sand and limestone, which impart structure, freshness, and complexity to the wines.
Reaching “La Castella” means choosing a slow life and embracing the myths that dwell within these hills. They are the towers and castles, medieval bastions of history; hazelnut orchards alternated with fields of life; families still living in farmhouses, guarding them against fleeting trends; those who craft the geometry of the wines, making them the essence of an experience to be savored.
“La Castella” is a place to arrive at, an emerging winery, small children taking their first steps on the land trodden by their grandparents, just as tradition has taught.
